@nctyourplaything || Continued bc Bryan asked

fuck no. i need you to stay right where you are. if you leave, who will make me food && build forts with me ? ” mandy stated with decisive finality. she refused to even entertain the idea of bryan leaving her anywhere. she wrapped her thin body around his surprisingly muscular frame. don’t listen to whatever assholes made you feel like you take up space. i’ll stab a shiv in the eye of the next person who says anything shitty.

Bryan had been second guessing himself lately, after losing the job he’d wanted, and everyone seeming to be pairing off all around him, he couldn’t help but feel like it’d be better if he just went somewhere else. He listened to Mandy’s words, about to protest that someone else would come along and be much better at making food and forts, but as he felt her arms around him, he couldn’t help but let out a shaky sigh and sag into her embrace. “No one said it,” he mumbled out, “Unless my own brain counts. And I’d really like to not get stabbed with a shiv in the eye, especially when I need that eye.” He nuzzled against her shoulder faintly, wrapping his arms around her in return.

Bryan looked up, startled at hearing the familiar voice and bit his lip sharply at seeing her standing there. He knew that he wasn’t one to be drinking, wasn’t one to normally even be at a bar, let alone with a drink in hand from his fake ID. But how had his friend known? Did she just happy to show up at the same place at the same time? Or–

“I got a phone call that you were here.”

Or someone had called her. Bryan absently wandered who was spying on him and had told Mandy, but then again, maybe whoever it had been was really worried and knew this was out of the ordinary for Bryan. That’d worry anyone, right? He took a deep breath and looked at the glass in his hand for a long moment, before lifting it up and taking a swig to down what was left.

“He cheated,” He managed out after a long moment, “Not once, but twice. I found out because Nate told me he’d seen him with a mutual friend of ours. I’m trying to get up the courage to go confront him about it..” He let out a weak chuckle then, glancing back up at her, “I don’t think it’s working though.”

mandy grabbed a marshmallow from the bag beside her ( the girl had never been good at eating healthy ) to throw at her friend. laughing at his protests, she hopped down to help him out. picking up the lettuce with him && tossing pieces into the bowl. oh, bryan. who the fuck waits until they’re 21 to drink ? ” rocking back on her heels, she mimicked his childish behavior, sticking her tongue out at him in return. pretty sure you’re gonna have to stick to the writing part. can’t have all the talent, bry. you have to share with the rest of us or they’ll call it BRYANWOOD instead of HOLLYWOOD && that just doesn’t have the same ring.

Bryan shifted a little, trying to catch the marshmallow she threw at him in his mouth, but it hit his cheek and bounced off instead. He grinned at her when she started to help him, and then snorted out, “Please, there are totally people who do. Maybe not sane people, but there are people who do nonetheless.” He smirked as she returned the childish gesture, playfully wrinkling his nose. “It’s not called BRYANWOOD already? Damn,” He joked, “I’ll just rename it to something more appealing when I sell my future books and make millions.”

“You’re a part of my family.” (is this really what you want, Bryan? to be a Milkovich?)

Bryan had been cooking dinner, quiet for once and just focused on what he was doing. It had been a hard day, and he’d basically just been on his own, not wanting to bug anyone. It was one of those days; one where he felt alone and people were showing off their families or not appreciating them for still being there, and it had him in a mood. He would have given anything for his parents to be there again; to be able to talk to them again or even just hug them. Still, he’d promised to make dinner and so even if he was in a mood, he was going to do just that. He wanted to keep his friends around, after all.

“They act like they’ll be there forever. You don’t know how long you’re going to have them, why be a complete jerk to your parents just because they didn’t buy you a damn car, it’s the city anyway, you’re not going to be driving that much, jesus christ…” He didn’t realize that he was muttering it out loud, assuming he was just thinking it to himself as he went over the day in his head, taking out the bit of frustration in his cooking, “Some of us don’t even have family anymore.”

“You’re a part of my family.”

His former roommate’s voice came from the doorway and he looked up, blinking for a moment as he looked at Mandy. He was a little confused, but then realized that he’d been muttering to himself out loud instead of just in his head and she must have heard him. He smiled at her then, taking the spoon in his hand and sitting it on the counter before turning to look at her. “Oh yeah?” He asked softly, happiness in his voice though at the thought of someone considering him family, “I’m glad to hear that, because then that means you’re a part of my family too. Always. And, now that you’re in, it’s like the mob; you can never not be a part of my family any more.” He chuckled and moved over, tugging the girl into a grateful hug.

are you… drunk ? or high ? ” mandy asked with amusement, her attention now fully focused on bryan. his antics making it hard for her to not join in his laughter but, as he dropped the bowl, she couldn’t help the snicker that escaped. okay, whatever you’re on right now, i want some. there’s no way you’re thinking those thoughts sober. ”

“What?” Bryan fake gasped, pretending to look scandalized, “Me? Drinking? High? Mandy, I’m only twenty, I’m not even old enough to take a sip of alcohol! I have no idea what you’re talking about, for shame!” He was giggling though, dropping down and starting to try and pick up the pieces of the salad that he’d dropped. Glancing up at her at her words, he snorted and playfully stuck his tongue out. “Does that mean my other dream of being an actor isn’t gonna work out?”

mandy looked up in surprise, staring at her former roommate. choking on a laugh, she raised an eyebrow, looking at him with feigned seriousness.

                  is that so ? ”

Bryan was fighting back a grin, trying to look as serious as possible as he glanced at Mandy. “Of course, look at this, who wouldn’t wish it was a doughnut? I’m a very, very sad…” He snorted then and started laughing, unable to keep a serious face for very long. He moved his hand to cover his mouth to stop laughing; only ending up dropping the bowl in his hand and swearing through his laughter.

how do you know not everyone uses it ? ” mandy countered, diving to try && catch the grape he tossed her way. she missed, the small piece of fruit rolling on the floor until it came to a stop just under her chair. she reached down to get it, popping her head back up over the table with a competitive smirk before throwing the grape back in his direction.  if you’re trying to start a food fight, genius english nerd, you’re going to lose. literally. no exaggeration there. just fact.

“Because they don’t,” Bryan laughed, grinning at her, “What about kids that are too young to say literally? What about people who don’t speak english? Huh?” He playfully wiggled his eyebrows at her, snickering and quickly ducking as the grape was thrown back in his direction. It hit the wall and landed near him, and he reached down to pick it up and throw it back at the girl. “Oh really? I’m going to lose? Well then you’d better bring it,” He teased.

alright, genius english nerd. then what does it mean ? because literally everyone uses the word ‘literally’. it’s a thing. i promise.

“Genius english nerd, huh? Well, I guess if that’s my title, I’ll take it,” Bryan shrugged, leaning back in the chair and laughing lightly, before playfully rolling his eyes. “Not everyone uses it, therefore you can’t use the word literally there,” He pointed out, “It means without exaggeration. Not every single person on the earth uses it that way. But, I suppose I can let you get away with it.” He grinned at her, then playfully took one of the grapes he was eating and tossed it at her.

she didn’t know anything about legal fighting. growing up in the poorest of neighborhoods, she had cleaned many a boyfriend up after a fight- the grime of whatever corner of the city they were in mixing with smears of blood && sweat. this had been- cleaner ? in a sense. the blood that had stained louis’s face ran red, his bruises clearly visible. for some reason, she had been expecting it to be far less entertaining. rules && shit always seemed to put a damper on things but this fight had kept her on the edge of her seat right up until the moment he’d hit the ground. up like a shot with the rest of the floor, she’d found herself in the hospital first, watching everyone else pace with worry as she slipped out to smoke a cigarette- hands shaking.

now here she was, waiting for the rest of the people to return with the fallen fighter. she stood outside their apartment building with her third, maybe fourth, cigarette of the night. at this rate, she was going to need something a lot stronger.

Bryan hadn’t stayed long at the hospital, just long enough to check on Louis and then head back home. The others were there, and he didn’t want to be in the way; never mind the way that hospitals completely freaked him out. He was walking down the street and headed back to the apartments, ‘he’s alive, he’s alive, he’s alive’ repeating over in his head as a reassurance. His quick steps that he hadn’t realized he was taking slowed down as he approached the building and saw the girl standing there.

“Hey…” He spoke softly as he approached her, thankful his voice was a little calmer now than it had been. He gave her a soft smile, trying to reassure both of them, as he came to a stop and stood next to her.
