My muse wraps their hands tightly around your muse’s neck.

The bunker was nothing like Bryan had expected. It had been sheer luck it seemed that Kane recognized him as Farm Station and had chose to keep him in the group of skaikru that had been saved. But it wasn’t smooth sailing, and there were constant arguments and scuffles… all of which Bryan stayed clear of. He’d been lucky enough to survive; as much as he was upset with the grounders for what had happened to his people, he was going to have to set that aside if he wanted to live.

It was a struggle, but Bryan was strong. He’d felt so alone at first, but once he started giving the grounders a chance, everything became so much easier. He had people to talk to, people that cared about him, people who would be around him. Maybe living down there wouldn’t be so bad if he stayed out of trouble, he though. Even if he did have to live with seeing the love of his life with someone else. He could survive it.

What was the worse, were the nightmares. They’d been happening ever since he’d reached the ground; Hannah and Iris had helped calm them before they reached Arkadia, and then being with Nathan again had calmed them, but he didn’t know if he could reach out to anyone now while the nightmares were getting worse. Instead, he just curled up in his bunk and tried to get through it.

This nightmare was a recurring one; They were above ground and everyone could see the wave coming. All of those he loved were standing outside the bunker, and one lone faceless male grounder was standing between them and safety. Normally, Bryan woke up in a panic and then managed to go back to sleep. However, this one seemed to be different. This time, the man had come at him, shaking him and trying to hurt him, and Bryan had reached out, trying to fight the man for long enough to get his friends to safety.

“BRYAN!”

The voice startled him awake, scaring him with how pained it seemed and how choked it was. Calypso? She was there in the dream, but it wasn’t the dream her that was responding or doing anything. It pulled him out of the nightmare, making his eyes fly open, trying to figure out what his friend was yelling about and what was happening to her. It was when he was awake that he saw.

His hands were around her throat tightly, the girl struggling and trying to get him to let go of her, face red and trying to breath. Her nails were digging into his wrists to try and get free and she was choking out his name again. Startled and terrified, Bryan quickly released her and scrambled backwards on his bed, running into the wall above it. Wide eyes watched her as she coughed and rubbed at her neck, and he shook, hugging his knees to his chest.

“I’m so sorry,” he choked out, “Oh my god, I’m so sorry, Cal, I didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean to.” She must have been trying to wake him up, he thought, shaking him like the man had been shaking him in the nightmare, and in his effort to protect them in his nightmare, he’d attacked her in his sleep. “I’m so sorry, are you okay?” he asked again, watching her worriedly.

He didn’t move any closer though, afraid she would be angry with him, and he didn’t want to make things worse. He felt awful about hurting his friend, and he bit his lip sharply, unsure how to explain that it was the nightmare.

walking dead au

send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it

  1. At the start, Bryan doesn’t believe that people are dying; only that they’re really sick and that they need help. This is probably because he and his parents live on their farm out in the country, and stay there so they don’t get ‘sick’ and therefore haven’t interacted with a lot of people. They have plenty of supplies there, so they decide to hide and wait it out.
  2. Bryan’s parents get bit when a walker wanders onto their farm and goes through the screen door in the kitchen, causing his mother to get bit, and then his father to; though his father manages to kill the walker that hurt them. Bryan is almost attacked by them, but won’t kill his parents. Instead, he manages to tie them up in their room, to keep them safe.
  3. Bryan’s parents almost bite him, but he manages. He know’s he’s hurting them, but is sure they’ll heal. He boards the house up to keep others like that from getting in. He doesn’t know how to fight, so he makes the house as safe as he can instead. He puts boards up, blankets up, makes himself a little nest to hide in. If they don’t find him, he won’t need to defend himself, right?
  4. When Bryan either runs out of supplies, or someone shows up to scout the farmhouse, he finally has to defend himself. The first thing he grabs is a frying pan, and eventually there’s a running joke about him being Rapunzel (locked away in a house/tower, long hair that hasn’t been cut in a while, and using a frying pan as a weapon). He eventually learns how to use a gun and knives, but isn’t 100% happy with it.
  5. Bryan isn’t good at killing the zombies once it comes down to it, but he is very good with plants and finding things that will keep his group alive. While the others are more likely to pass by something, Bryan easily spots mushrooms that are growing, or other edible plants that can keep them from starving, and it becomes the main reason the group protects him and keeps him alive.
  6. The first time Bryan actually has to kill a zombie is in defense of a friend who’s about to get bitten. He doesn’t cry at first; making sure his friend is alright and that they both safely get back to the hideout where they’re currently staying. It’s only then that he spends nearly an hour sobbing in the corner, because he feels horrible about what he’s done.

Bryan blinked a few times as the grounder who’d saved him continued speaking, brows furrowed as he tried to understand what she meant. While some of the others had paid attention to learning the grounder language, Bryan had been afraid of them after what he went through in Ice Nation, so he hadn’t wanted to learn. But when this girl saved his life, she had been kind enough to try and start teaching him some while he healed.

“… oh!” His eyes suddenly lit up as he got it, trying to repeat the words that she’d said. When she shook her head, he huffed and tried again, slower and a little more pronounced. It seemed that this time he’d gotten it right, as she suddenly grinned and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. He hissed in pain at first, at the wound that was still hurting, but returned the hug after a moment. “Thanks,” He stated softly.
