Murphy glanced at Bryan with a curious tilt of his head. He’d caught his attention with that one and a slow smile drew across his lips as he mulled it over. “Oh yeah?” An eyebrow rose with careful suspicion, wondering if Bryan was only winding him up. “Then what was the biggest lie you ever told?”
Bryan smiled at the fact that he’d gotten Murphy’s attention, and the smile from the older boy. It was his question then, that threw Bryan off. What lies had he told as a child? Bryan had been a rather relatively good child, and had done his best to stay out of trouble, rather than cause it. So what was something that he could tell Murphy about that wouldn’t make him seem… lame, to the other man?
“I lied about when I was with Nate,” he stated thoughtfully, “And that I wasn’t out running around with him. Maybe… the biggest was when I said I didn’t accidentally pocket seeds from Farm Station and run to put them back, but I did?” … Okay, so that sounded way more lame than he’d hoped for.
Monroe held very still for a minute, not sure if she was supposed to say something. She wrapped her arms around Bryan, managing a smile. “ Hi, Bry. ”
Bryan took a deep breath, just holding Monroe tightly to his chest in a hug. He smiled at feeling her return the hug and chuckled. “Hi,” He stated softly to her, finally relaxing his arms some, letting her step back. “I missed you,” He added after a moment, “And I wanted to know if you’d come train with me?”
Huh, that was right… Miller and Bryan had been a couple last he had remembered in Polis. He didn’t know what happened in the long run, didn’t care to ask for it too. It wasn’t on him… But Bryan had survived, that was one thing. A light nod was given to the other, arms folded across his chest as he watched him. “ Sounds about right. “ he finally commented, glancing to the side.
“ I don’t know, as defending champion I pretty much have high chances for keeping the title for another year. “ he drawled, glancing over at the other before a breath was taken in. “ What all happened in that bunker anyway, huh? “
Bryan couldn’t help the chuckle that left him as Murphy mentioned being the defending champion. “I don’t think I’m anywhere near actually taking your title,” He stated with a soft smile, “But I’d like to keep managing to survive and not get myself picked off at any point soon, you know? I think I can keep my mouth shut and my head down and not cause any trouble. We’ve got you for that, right?” He glanced over at him with a smirk at that, teasing of course.
It was Murphy’s question that made the smile fade quickly, and caused him to look down, taking a shaky breath. He hugged his knees more to his chest, shoulders hunched, and clearly uncomfortable now. “We did what we had to, to survive,” He stated, voice a little more distant and flat, “Wonkru followed Bloodrina, and here we are.”
