Bryan had the day off; he’d submitted the rough draft of the article he’d been writing to the newspaper he was working for, and was waiting to hear back, but they said it would be tomorrow. All his other work was complete, and as for his novel; well, he was having writers block and wasn’t going to attempt to force anything to happen. Today was supposed to be just a relaxing day, him sitting on the couch and playing Spyro.
That was, until a baby was suddenly unceremoniously plopped into his lap.
“What the f–fudge?” He stammered out, dropping the control and making sure to hold the small, giggling child so that she didn’t fall out of his lap. She looked to be a few months old, and Bryan glanced at her and then at Octavia, who’d parked herself in a chair nearby.
“Octavia, if you’re going around stealing children, I would really not like to be a part of this,” He deadpanned then, “As cute as she is, you can’t just take children, that’s called kidnapping, you know.”
“I’d throw this remote at you if you weren’t holding her,” was the response he got back, “We’re babysitting. I promised the girl downstairs that I’d watch Rose for a few hours while she went to work, because her usual babysitter is too sick to come in.”
“… Generous of you to volunteer both of us,” Bryan snorted out at his best friend, “Since when did my day off turn into the both of us babysitting? No, don’t answer that. I don’t know if I’d trust you babysitting by yourself. Or me by myself. So I guess we’re stuck and she’s just gonna have to help me beat this level in Spyro, yeah?”

“Wha… no, Bellamy don’t you da– oh my god!”
Bryan’s eyes went wide as Bellamy handed over the small bundled up child to him, looking frantically between the bundle he was now holding awkwardly in his hands, and the older man in front of him. He was frozen in place, as if unsure how or if he could move at all, and silently praying in his head that he wasn’t going to end up dropping the child or something.
“It’s not funny!” He finally sputtered out when he heard Bellamy and the child’s mother laughing, “Bellamy! Take her back! I’m not ready for the responsibility of being an uncle! That has to come later when she’s at least old enough to sit up by herself and not like… this fragile!” He glanced down at the child again, arms still stiff and just feeling a little panicked; he’d never held a child like this before.
It was then however that the tiny child let out a gurgle and then a cooing noise, and he felt his arms relax just a little. The kid was cute, he couldn’t deny that of course; and he did want to be a good uncle after all. Still, the baby was so tiny and fragile, and although Bryan appreciated the fact that the kid hadn’t started screaming yet, it made him still feel a little nervous.
“Okay, uncle time is over. If this is some ploy to get me to babysit for a while, it’s a no go, Bellamy,” He stated, taking a step back towards the older man so he could take the child back.
